Sound Steps
Stimulates children’s imagination and creativity through language, numeracy and music.
Sound Steps does more than just offer a range of 'ready-made' games ..."The concept is incredibly simple; the coloured, numbered mats are placed on the floor a game card is slotted in the top, you step on the mats to play the game. Soundsteps is great fun and a brilliant learning tool, this unit will last for years.”

Concept
SoundSteps is an interactive sound concept whereby a collection of 10 wireless mats react by means of sound when a child steps on them.
How to play?
Not only do children step on the mats but can also jump on them, sit on them or press down on them. It is up to the children to choose which sounds they want to hear or which game they wish to play.
Co-operation with Children
The SoundSteps product was designed and developed in close co-operation with the target group. Children aged 2 to 12 from the 'Korein Kinderplein' child day care network played with earlier prototypes of the product and their feedback as well as any suggestions from the Korein day care staff were taken into account and incorporated in the design.
The Mats
The tiles (also referred to as 'mats') constitute the main component of the SoundSteps product. As these mats are wireless, the children are not restricted in their play. They can spread them out over the floor, put them on top of chairs or tables, move them closer or further apart, turn them around, etc. In many of the games, a tile is linked to a specific sound. In the 'Piano' game, for instance, each mat represents a musical note, in 'Scary Sounds' each mat hides a scary sound and in 'Memory' e.g. the sound of a person sneezing. Each tile registers when it is being moved or when a person steps on it. Depending on the game one has chosen to play, SoundSteps will react to this action by producing a specific sound.

Educational
Teachers can use the educational features to incorporate learning into the game. They can do this by selecting a card (showing an image of the game in question) and by inserting this game card into the card reader.

Activity Cards
The game cards allow users to select a variety of games, the majority of which are games of an educational nature. SoundSteps, for instance, includes a game called 'Maths', in which children do sums and practice their times tables.
The game can be played on an individual basis, in group format or under the supervision of a teacher.
Other examples of clearly education oriented games included in the SoundSteps product are: 'Language – logical sentences' (whereby children learn to combine words to make grammatically correct sentences) and 'Having lunch' (whereby children are taught words in a different language).
